These regulations are established to maintain order and safety at our shooting ranges. The regulations are divided into safety rules and range rules. Every shooter is required to familiarize themselves in advance with the applicable rules and procedures and comply with them without exception. These rules apply equally to both firearms and air guns, unless otherwise stated.
SAFETY RULES
- Treat every weapon as if it is loaded.
- Always point the muzzle in a safe direction (bullet trap).
- Pointing a weapon at a person is strickly prohibited.
- Transport of weapons to and from the firing point must be done packed (in a case or bag), or if it concerns club weapons, unpacked but with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. This means rifles must be pointed upwards (muzzle above the head), and pistols/revolvers must be held by the barrel with the muzzle pointing downward. The action must always be open, and a chamber flag (for firearms) or a safety cord (for air guns) must be inserted. For side-lever rifles, the cocking handle must be disengaged from the lock position.
- Handling of weapons behind shooters is strictly prohibited.
- Shooting is not allowed when the red warning lights are on.
- All instructions from the Range Safety Officer (VVF) or the board must be followed immediately and without argument. If desired, the shooter can speak with the Duty Board Member (BvD) afterwards, outside the range.
- Upon the command "CEASE FIRE" ("VAST VUREN"):
- Immediately stop shooting (firearms).
- Complete the shot (air guns).
- Unload the weapon following the "safe unload" procedure.
- Open the weapon, insert chamber flag or safety cord, and place it on the shooting bench with the muzzele in a safe direction (bullet trap).
- Take two steps back.
- Wait for further instructions.
- Upon the emergency command "STOP STOP STOP":
- Immediately stop shooting.
- Place the weapon with the muzzle in a safe direction (bullet trap) on the bench.
- Take two steps back.
- Wait for further instructions.
- This emergency command may be issued by any shooter if there is a potential safety hazard.
- Shooting may only resume after the VVF has given permission and the red warning lights are off.
- A shooter must never leave the firing line with a weapon that has a closed action or bolt.
- Weapons must never be left unattended on the range (even if packed).
- No one may touch another person’s weapon without the explicit permission of the owner or supervisor.
RANGE RULES
- Hearing protection is mandatory on the ranges
- Everyone (shooter, coach, guest shooter, VVF, BvD) must register with the clerk before entering the range. If necessary, the clerk assigns firing points in order of arrival.
- After registration, weapons must be stored packed (in case or bag) in the armory while waiting for a shooting session.
- Weapons may only be brought to the range after the shooter has registered and a firing lane is available. Weapons may not be placed on the range (even if packed) while waiting for a lane.
- Shooting is not allowed without a BvD present, except during youth training.
- Shooting is not allowed without a clerk present, except during youth training.
- Shooting may only begin after the VVF has authorized it.
- During training, each shooter may shoot for 45 minutes. If there are enough available firing points, the clerk may extend this time.
- To prevent damage to the range infrastructure, “rapid fire” is prohibited. “Rapid fire” is defined as a series of two or more shots with less than two seconds between shots. Exceptions are training and competitions for Service Pistol organized by the club.
- Large caliber rifles may only be fired in range section B.
- When shooting with a semi-automatic weapon, a partition must be placed on the ejection side if a firing point is present there.
- No one is allowed within a shooter’s personal space unless authorized by the VVF or coach.
- A shooter must not be disturbed while shooting, except by the VVF or board.
- At the end of a shooting session, the shooter must leave the firing point tidy (e.g. collect casings, targets, and target holders; reset range transport; return the shooting bench to the 50 m point).
- In case of a malfunction or defect of a club weapon, firing point, or range transport system, the shooter must notify the on-duty VVF or BvD.
Failure to comply with these regulations or ignoring instructions from the VVF, clerk, or board may result in removal from the shooting range
